Walaykum salaam warahamatullah,

An outbreak, according to World Health Organization, is an occurance of a disease which is higher than the normal expected at that particular season. Center for disease control and prevention (CDC) report that the highest flu/respiratory illness is between December to February.

It is difficult to say that the current surge in upper respiratory tract infection fits the definition or not because neither there is data that can be used to scientifically quantify nor there is an official statement by ministry.

Since we have seen our friends and families having increased incidence of respiratoy symptoms including fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat, muscle aches it is important we implore safety measures by taking appropriate preventive measures such as promotion of cough hygeine, encouraging frequent hand hygeine, using standard precautions for caring for the ill and maintaining clean environment by sanitizing regularly. Make sure you are adequately hydrated and seek appropriate medical care when symptoms arise.

Wishing you the best of health
