As seen on National Geographic News this long exposure image, made during a complete night by a custom made panoramic film camera, has captured the startrails around the south celestial pole. The equatorial region is the only place on the Earth that the celestial poles are located right at the horizon. From dark and transparent locations such as high altitude slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa the Milky Way appears stunningly beautiful in the starry sky, while there is no sign of it in urban skies. The central bulge (the brightest region) of the Milky Way toward the constellation Scorpius and Sagittarius stands high above Kilimanjaro in this view.
