Well...I was asked by a non-muslim frnd tht y can men marry 4 wives...? any suggestions on wat shud i answer her..

During the time of the Prophet (saww), there were many bloody wars, hence many women were widowed. Islam allowed the men to be able to marry 4 wives in order to protect those women.

Remember this from my biology class ...our teacher said that the birth ratio these days is something like for every 10 babies born 6 are girls and 4 are boys out of which 2 boys die leaving behind 6girls n 2guys giving a ratio of 3:1 so with this in mind the teacher being a christian actually said "the prophet was right to say that a man can marry 4 wives"

u probably want to explain that having 4 wives is not the norm

and that a man who marries 4 wives must be equal to each one of them
example if he buys the first one a car he has to buy the 2nd one a car too

aslo u can say that if a women get married and she doesnt not feel comfortable if her husband marries another women then she can put it in her marriage contract
and then he cant marry any one else unless they divorce
