As we approach Ashura, we notice that some of our brothers and sisters in faith encourage each other to fast on the day of Ashura by means of narrations that say that it is the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet.

The Marhum Sayyid (may Allah reward him for his efforts), wrote a short article on 'The Fast of Ashura' where he analyses the tradition and practice of fasting on the day of Ashura, proving beyond doubt that the tradition is fabricated.

Thats an interesting way to look at it.

Since the essence of the fast is celebration , that is what is problematic.

And if it is done thinking that it is recommended by the Holy Prophet (saww), then that is also not true.
