Islam has placed a lot of emphasis on a balanced lifestyle. Balance is a trait of perfection. These days there are tons of motivational videos to push us to work hard, but as the saying goes all work and no play makes Jake a dull boy. This is not to say that we should not work hard, rather that we should have a balanced lifestyle. This will give us success not only in this world but also in the hereafter.

True balance should cover all our needs – social, spiritual, intellectual, physical and emotional.

Benefits of a balanced life
1. Physical wellbeing
Healthy and balanced diet leads to improved health.
Imam Ali (as) has said whoever seeks physical wellbeing should seek a balanced life style.

2. Emotional wellbeing
Tranquility, a sense of achievement, free from stress, etc
This in turn leads to internal balance of man’s faculties – neither boastful nor despair, neither over excited nor easily saddened, neither scared nor quickly angered.

3. Healthy relationships
Quality time with family, friends and community.

4. Intellectual growth
Time for learning plus a balanced lifestyle helps you have a fertile land for understanding (eaten properly, enough sleep, proper relationships).

5. Spiritual enlightenment
Accomplishment of all our religious responsibilities, the beginning of the journey towards perfection.
