Media Room KSIJ & Cameras inside ladies Mosque / Imambargah

Discuss general religious issues that affect all of us in our daily lives.

What do you feel about the cameras installed in the ladies imambargah?

I dont see any problem with them even if men can use them to see the ladies

As long as the media room team is reliable, they wont abuse the cameras. So no problem

I am ok with one camera fixed on the mimbar accessible only by the ladies from the ladies side. Anything more is unacceptable

Why have cameras in the ladies side at all. No cameras, no opportunity given to shaitan to encourage abuse

We therefore sent the following letter to the Jamaat Executives:

November 1, 2013

Hon. Secretary
KSIJ
Dar es Salaam

Dear Zulfikar bhai,

Salaam Alaykum

Re: Issue of Media Room and Access to Cameras in the ladies Imam(as) bargah

We, concerned Members, who signed a petition to the Jamaat, which was presented to you on Friday 24 August 2012, wish now to raise this issue during the AGM.

As you are fully aware this issue has unnecessarily dragged for over two years.

This is despite numerous meetings in which we successfully detailed and described the weaknesses making the current media room systems very easy to abuse without being detected:

On 6 October 2012 you informed us that the jamaat executives have decided to install a cut-of-switch and promised that the switch will be installed within a couple of weeks and be operational before Muharram begins (16 Nov 2012) . This commitment was communicated to us after your consultation with Dr. Alidina as per your email to Hasin in which you committed:

"We have engaged Sheikh Alidina on this matter and he has assured us he will look into it and advise the course of action if any required. He has not reverted to us, and whenever he does, his recommendations will be acted upon."

A few days later, in October 2012, the Vice President, Azimbhai Dewji informed Hasin that the jamaat executive had decided to install the switch which will be operational before Muharram (which was approximately a month away).

Upon discovering that the commitment was not acted upon even six months later and raising the issue, the Vice President Azimbhai Dewji will give witness as how we were mislead with false reasons as to why the switch was not installed.

Eventually Zahirbhai conceded that the reason was that the jamaat executive have to listen to their volunteers, referring to the media room leadership.

On 26 Sep 2013 in a meeting in which Sheikh Alidina was present it was proven again how easily abuse-able the systems were with Sheikh himself testifying being approached by a media room member to spy on the momineen. However when asked to install the switch and work on a separate media room in the ladies imam (as) bargah for controlling the ladies camera, it was rejected without any valid reason.

In spite of all the above, for reasons unknown to us, you have deiced to ignore and overrule your own decision on this issue, leaving members with no option but to raise it in the AGM.

Therefore do kindly allocate ample time for the discussion of this matter.

With salaams

Update

The AGM started at 10am but was adjourned at Maghrib since the day was over.

By this time the meeting was still in the agenda of 'Matters arising from Minutes of last AGM'.

The Hon Secretary has committed to reconvene the meeting before end of Nov.

We hope to raise the issue therefore in the reconvened AGM.

We shall update you once the date and time for the reconvened meeting is set.

In the meanwhile do post your opinions and concerns and contact us if you can assist with this issue.

(bismillah)
(salam)

The Jamaat has announced that the AGM shall be reconvened on Sunday 8 Dec 2013 at 9pm.

We have sent the following letter and notice to the Management Team:
------

December 5, 2013

Hon Secretary
KSIJ
Dar es Salaam

Dear Alhaj Zulfikarbhai,

Salamun Alaykum

In accordance with the Jafari faith and Islamic Sharia, we strongly protest the continued access the gent-operators of the media room have to the cameras in the ladies Imam(as)-bargah. This is despite over two years of continuous effort and a commitment by the Managing Committee to solve this by Muharram 2012.

Whereas we trust the good intentions of the Media Room team, the potential misuse and abuse of the cameras has VERY SERIOUS implications on the hijab and dignity of the Ladies in the Imam(as)-bargah, and raises serious concern for the parents and husbands as well as the ladies themselves. Its always better to exercise precaution in hijab matters.

We strongly urge and require the managing committee to act upon the following immediately, in good faith, without any delay:

“All cameras that are in the ladies Imam(as)-bargah are to be re-wired so that they can only be accessed and controlled from a room within the ladies Imambargah, to a separate DVR. All access and controls from the current media room must be severed. A ladies only team will man the new ladies-only media room from the ladies Imam(as)-bargah. This will be implemented within one month from the date of presentation of this petition.

In the meanwhile, while the above is being implemented, physical cut-off switch(es) will be installed in the ladies Imam(as)-bargah to allow the cameras in the ladies Imam(as)-bargah to be cut-off from access by the media room when these cameras are not in use. This switch(es) will be installed within one day.”

We trust the Managing Committee will not shun from their religious and constitutional duty to consider the religious sentiments and constitutional rights of the members of the Jamaat.

Should the Managing Committee refuse to act on the above petition, we would like to present and support the above petition as a members’ resolution to the reconvened AGM in 2013. The wordings of the resolution are the ones that are in bold-italics. The word petition will be replaced by 'resolution'.

We shall be presenting the signatures to this petition/resolution at the AGM, should the managing committee not undertake the changes demanded by then.

With Salaams

Hasin, Mohammedraza, Muhammad, MuhammadMahdi, Jaffer, Imran, Zahir, Abdulhussein Et Al

(salam)

Some of the concerned members have come together and put forth a summary in point form which I am copying below for the benefit of all. Please feel free to share the same with family and friends so that we can create awareness and support the agenda at the AGM tomorrow:

Concerned members are hereby informing other concerned members so that in unison we can push and support the managing committee to make the right decisions with the aim to improve as a community.

MEDIA ROOM SETUP AND PROTECTION OF HIJAB

Dear Members,
  • The cameras in the ladies and gents imambargah/masjid can be accessed from the same room, called the media room.
  • Our brother Dr. Muhammad Shabbir saw ladies displayed on a media room computer screen and he raised this concern to his fellow brothers and together we continue to request and urge improvements in the setup.
  • With the former and current setup of the media room, the hijab of our sisters, wives, mothers and daughters is still vulnerable to the weaknesses of the setup and this can be technically proven and leaves room for possibilities of misuse.
  • The media room has put only human based controls in place which is a good start but very insufficient as the system is still vulnerable. The call to change the system is not an attack on the characters of our members; however it is a call to acknowledge the human condition and the possibilities of erring in every one of us and thus it should not be left on trust alone.
  • This matter has been discussed in the presence of our Sheikh, Dr. Alidina, who fully supports the separation based on the reasons. In those meetings, it was jointly agreed that the systems are indeed vulnerable; yet, sufficient and agreed upon remedies have yet to be implemented.
  • Those who doubt that the system can be abused and accept anything less than complete separation are kindly requested to reconsider that they may not have some relevant technical knowledge and the appreciation of some technical possibilities.
  • The solution of having separate rooms for the gents and ladies is neither expensive nor difficult. With the urged changes our brothers and sisters shall then feel safe in this community and not vulnerable.
  • We thus continue with our two-year long struggle and we call upon our concerned community members to support the rectification of the vulnerabilities and to strengthen the influence of this decision with their support as our job is to “remind, indeed reminder is beneficial” as per the Holy Quran. Our brothers and sisters and elders of our community are called to be aware of this vulnerability for as long as the current setup is maintained. We call you to support this agenda at the AGM this Sunday, 8 December 2013, at 9 pm.
  • In the case you cannot attend the AGM, please do take some time to email the Managing Committee to express your concern and demand for urgent resolution to this sensitive issue.
    President Shirazbhai Walji - president@ksijdar.org,
Vice President Azimbhai Dewji - vp@ksijdar.org,
    Secretary Zulfikarbhai Chandoo - secretary@ksijdar.org
with a cc to petition@ask.or.tz to help us keep track
  • More information and minutes of discussion with the team and Sheikh are available at http://www.ask.or.tz/mr or email petition@ask.or.tz

BRAVO to Hasin and his team. Keep it up. It is crystal clear to all of us now that there is something fishy going on as only those cheap individulas resort to slander who have something to hide.As we can see from the above post of ''Insaan'', people like him are a shame to the community.Even our Holy Infallibles had to face individuals like this and more worst than him but as Allah says in the holy quran ''WATUIZZU MAN TASHAA WATUZILLU MAN TASHAA...''.
We as members of community are proud of you and stand by you Hasin.
When you face these type of parasites who try to discourage you from voicing the truth and acting upon it then remember that Allah says in his holy Book that the servants of Allah are those when the ignorant address them they say ''peace''... and move on.

Dear bro/sis, i know media room is at the right path.. lets keep decency..
As For you brother stop favouring things that you dont know.. if you really like giving quotes from the Holy Quran And Hadiths of Masumeen, You should Also Know that they have said not to judge a matter by only listening to what the opposite person has said. use your sight to reconfirm.
And that also Hasin hasnt seen such an incident it was his so called team member, as per the posting hasin has been giving.. i think you should ponder upon it.

If Your Team member really saw the incident, as per your post he could quietly ask the head to take a serious action rather than acting like foolish and spreading around. i guess the Quote you gave was CRYSTAL CLEAR for the Media Room. Surely there are people who will keep us down but always be with the truth.

Hasin You arent giving any peace It Is for you that our community brothers are fighting for your lame reasons. Because of your character people think us as extremist.. BRAVO

(salam)

The reconvened AGM started at 9:30PM on 8 Dec 2013 and was adjourned at 3AM on 9 Dec 2014.

The Hon. Secretary has committed to reconvene on 12 Jan 2014 to continue the agenda.

We raised the concern about cameras in the ladies side during the matters arising from last years AGM minutes, but the Hon. Secretary requested it be raised in AOB (Any Other Business) at the end of the Agenda (after Accounts and Appointment of Auditors).

The Hon. Secretary said he had not received our resolution and said it may be lost in email. He agreed to include the same and circulate it to members. We agreed to send it again.

We met with the Hon. President in person and he agreed to arrange a meeting with the media room to discuss a way forward to solve the issue and address the concerns.

We also spoke to the media room team who were also supportive of a meeting.

Both the President and Media Room team have assured us they will arrange a meeting soon, inshallah.

I dont understand why we are so resistant to change for the betterment of the community. Why all this red tape and bureaucracy?
"Respected" Insaan, perhaps you are defending yourself TOO loudly? You really dont need to resort to cheap slandering and abuse in order to prove your point if you are with the truth?

"Then is one who was a believer like one who was defiantly disobedient? They are not equal. (32:18)
