In Syria, we live as if our hands are tied. There are 40% Shia Ithna-asheris, 20% Christians, 30% Sunnis and rest of them are either Druzes or Agakhanis, but here u can never debate with anyone about religion even when u see a Shia going against Shiism, u just have to take silence. U may be friends in buisness or maybe other things but religion, no! U r not allowed to hold religious debates, a punishment of which is very severe.

Because in Arab culture, such discussions end up in war and fighting like in Iraq. Its completely political here. Here also u r not allowed to mention the name of "Israel" or else they take you away. And, political discussions are forbidden here
