Ayat 103 of Surat Baqra of the Holy Qur'an (2:103) reads:--
"AND ALLAH IS WITH THOSE WHO SHOW PATIENCE."
Sayyadi al-Muhasibi, may Allah be Merciful to him, says "Sabr (patience) is to remain unmoved before the arrows of the Divine Decrees". Others would change the words ''DIVINE DECREES'' into ''AFFLICTION'' but the meaning remains the same: perfect patience is to accept whatever comes from Allah, even the hardest blow of fate [think of Prophet Ayub and Prophet Yakub ].
Some reputable Teachers have divided patient people into 3 Classes: the MUTASABBIR, who attempt to be patient; the SABIR, who is patient in afflictions; and the SABUR, who is perfectly patient under any condition.
And as Sayyadi Abdurrahman Jami observed in his Nafahat al-Uns: "To be Patient before Allah's Orders is more excellent than fasting and prayer".
