In Ayat 99 of Surat al-Hijr of the Holy Qur'an (15:99), Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala says:--
"AND SERVE YOUR LORD TILL THE INEVITABLE (death) COMES UNTO YOU."
Thus our commitment to submit to Allah, Azzah Wa Jallah, should not be a fad, a temporary emotional reaction; we should not waver despite all the highs and lows of life. The goal is to reach the end of our life in a state of total submission to our Creator.
Related to the above, one may also cite Ayat 162 of Surat An-am (6:162) of the Qur'an where it is stated:--
"VERILY, MY SALAAT (Prayer), MY SACRIFICE, MY LIVING AMD MY DYING ARE FOR
ALLAH, THE LORD OF THE WORLDS."
This come about only if/when there is sincerity in all we do. Insincerity breeds diseases such as riya (showoff), hasad (jealousy), kibr (pride) and ill-will (egoism).
