Nigerian Shias : We Are Ready For Police Attacks in defending Palestinians in Quds Day

Members of the Islamic Movement (Shia group) under the leadership of Malam Ibraheem Zakzaky have expressed their readiness for an attack from the government, which they said is planned for Friday, when they would join other Muslim faithful around the world to hold a peaceful demonstration to protest against Israeli occupation of the Quds Mosque and Palestinian land.

This was contained in a press release issued in Kaduna by Aleey Yusuf of the Media Forum of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria Monday.

"It is now revealed that the Federal Government is set to bomb the residence of the leader of Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, located at Gyallesu quarters, Zaria Local Government, Kaduna State. It has been observed that Nigerian government, under the leadership of Alhaji Umar Musa Yar’Adua, had finished its plans to storm Zakzaky and his disciples throughout Nigeria," the statement added.

The group said it already had the blueprint which contained the security strategies against it.

"In the blueprint, it is planned for government agents to launch incessant killings against members of the movement and make it history. According to their mischievous plans, they would also spread maliciously propaganda that Sheikh Zakzaky is attempting to topple the Nigerian government", the statement claimed.

The statement also recalled that the Islamic movement started while Zakzaky was in Ahmadu Bello University Zaria in 1979, and that all efforts to crush it by previous governments proved abortive.

"We're, therefore, optimistic that the attempt of the present administration to crush us would also fail woefully", it said.

"We depend on God, who's supporting the movement. It's a movement aimed to salvage humanity from the wrath of God, and no individual or group would crush it!"

The group also expressed deep concern over what it described as libelous action by a renowned Islamic scholar, Dr. Ahmad Gumi, who has been speaking against the Shi'ite since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.

"We've been noticing that the said Malam has made it mandatory to himself to speak malicious words against Shi'a Muslims as infidels, inciting the government to take strict measures of wiping us from the face of this world. This propaganda is being aired on Radio Nigeria, Kaduna, Nagarta Radio, and Kaduna State Media Corporation, KSMC.

"We're surprised that though it is against the good ethics of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) to allow abuses, confrontations and spreading of libelous words against an individual or group, yet NBC still keeps listening to Dr. Gumi every day and every time, while he continually spreads false statements on Shi'ite Muslims in Nigeria."

The group accused the NBC of carrying on hidden agenda by Gumi, the Federal Government, Israel and the United States of America.

Meanwhile, our correspondent observed that there is tension in Kaduna over reports that the government’s alleged plan to disperse the demonstration by the Shi'ite on Friday could spark off trouble.
