Dear Brothers and Sisters

For those who were present at Juma Khutba surely must have witnessed the statistics of our community youths moving away from religion and becoming victims of the bad vices around in the environment.

We need to rise very fast and share our views and ways in which this can be stopped and controlled.

Lets share ways in which the spreading of this can be stopped and our youths being safe!!

I found the statistics shocking. I dont know any one who drinks or does drugs. Am I naive or were the statistics exaggerated?

SALAAMS..
it was a real shock the way the statistics were said !
I think IBN will broadcast the friday khutba in their channel (second khutba is the horror movie)

As per what I can reproduce of the statistics what was said in khutba,
21 boys and 19 girls were interviewed and asked if they KNEW ANYBODY in their CIRCLE of does the following:-

- Doing Drugs . majority boys said they know someone.
Even GIRLS side minority said.
Same for consuming ALCOHOL. (even girls!!! ... jst imagine the time we are in)

- Had physical contact and sexual relationship between boy and girl friends.
(around 10 boys/girls said they knew someone who had such relationship)

- SWAPING WIVES.
They interviewed one wife, she said there were around 5 couples who do that, and the age starts from as low as 25 years. The number can be high !

- HIV/AIDS is spreading between husbands and wives, due to unfaithful and dirty things they do.

- HOMOSEXUAL and Lesbian is preveiling in our community youths, many boys/girls in the survey said THEY KNEW SOMEONE who were caught in these acts !!

- Pornography and Masterbation majority of the boys/girls said they knew someone or they did it...

PS- These may not be the exact statistics what the alim said, as I am reproducing with how I remember.

-WHAT ACTIONS us YOUTHS should take to SAVE our COMMUNITY BROTHERS/SISTERS ?
- WHAT is the ROOT CAUSE of THE PROBLEM and HOW to SOLVE IT ?
- IS IT THE HARAAM EARNING via PARENTS EFFECTING their CHILDREN ?
- IS IT THE PARENTS to BLAME ? BUT MAJORITY of YOUTHS have GOOD INTELLECT to KNOW GOOD from BAD.

Thanks brother for the summary.

I think we all agree that something somewhere is going wrong.

Having said that I have reservations about the statistics for the following reasons:

1. 40 youths is a very small sample size compared to the number of youths
2. If these 40 youths were those who are actively involved in jamaat activities then high chances that they will come across an issue that is not prevalent but only affects a few individuals and therefore will answer yes to most issues.
3. 40 people saying yes they know someone who is involved in something maybe referring to the same person(s), all having heard about the issue.
4. Some of the poll answers will be based on hear-say.
They interviewed one wife, she said there were around 5 couples who do that
5. How much can the word of the wife be trusted?

There is no way in determining how wide spread an issue is based on such a poll.

It however is a good incentive to families and parents to wake-up and start taking active interest in their children and their families.

I think irrespective of the numbers...these sicknesses are presnt in our community and we need to ask ourselves what has gone wrong..why has Allah been forgotten...

Hasin, I was having similar thoughts.

Which brings me to my suggestion for Ask.
Why not make an anonymous poll with similar qns but instead of the ppl knowing someone, the qns shud be directed to themselves.

I agree with Mahdi that we need to do a similar survey and try to find out where we stand as well......this will actually assist to give a true picture about the stats given out!! What do you say?

I think a poll should indeed be kept so as to help identify how many people are actually affected by these sicknesses

Can you all suggest questions that will be part of such a poll?

I will meanwhile look into the technology that can allow anonymous but secure polling

That is one area where we have analyse and see what takes the young ones outside the community to waste and spend there time until they are affected by the vices!!! A good survey with a large group should be informative

One thing for sure is the fact that dar-es-salaam community is a very traditionalist society..they need to change the mentality

Traditionalism is not necessarily evil.

Apart from the question of traditionalism, what other questions should such a poll have?

Ideally we should think of questions about issues that we feel are affecting the community.

If i get enough questions I will set up a poll inshallah
