We, Muslims, have always had high regards for Lady Fatima, may Allah be pleased with her, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam. She is one of the 4 women to have reached perfection in Islam [achieved best and highest moral and practical examples among women], the other 3 being Asiya, Maryam and Khadijah, may Allah be pleased with them all.
Imam Sadiq, may Allah be Merciful to him, narrated that "Fatima has 9 heavenly names:--Fatima, Siddiqah, Mubarakah, Tahera, Zakkiyyah, Raaziyah, Marziyyah, Muhaddathah and Zahrah." He then said, "Do you know what the name Fatima means? It means, 'She is separated from all evil."
So, Fatima is/was given this name because she is pure of all things evil and indecent and is the epitome of all good things and beautiful.
