Bibi Khadija Ummul Momineen (as) was much older than our Prophet (saw)… in terms of precedent none better than this marriage.

Ofcourse this is the most honourable precedent to follow, however the day and age has changed a lot and also one should consider Rasool-e-Khuda (s.a.w) was known as the city of knowledge clearly far more mature than any man we may consider today. For a man to marry a woman considderably older than him, or for that matter at all older in any way may not be the best idea clearly because in todays world most women are far more mature than men of the same age.

What gives you that idea :?: I shall not speak for my contemporaries but don’t you think this is a stereotypical assumption :?:

Well clearly, genetically and scientifically and for that matter islamically also, a woman matures around the age of 9 (buloogh, is baligh in other words) whereas a man becomes baligh at the age of 15. Do you suggest that you posses or any other man that you know of posses' a type of ultra gene which empowers him to mature at the age of 9?

A point of discussion amongs the Shia and Ahle sunnah schools of thought. If anyone has any good resources which can clear doubts of our brothers about the age of Bibi Khadija during the time of their marriage as well as proof of her never been married before, please start another topic with references to these resources.

I can agree with Sweety with regards to the age issue. Generally men are 6 years behind the women...and thats why age difference may prove essential in a successful marriage.

Having said that however, we also discussed the issue of mental maturity differing from physical maturity (usually later)...hence there is that small chance, depending on the environment that a man grows up in, he may be able to deal with that kind fo relationship.

Also to take into consideration is what problems late age may bring the couple when the woman gets older and the man is still young.

Agreed women mature earlier but that still doesn’t purport that lets say a 22 year old women is more mature than a 22 year old man.

I would say there is no figure to it, it all just depends in the environment you grow up in and that shapes your maturity and how you tend to deal with things.
