well the answer for the above question is........
3003 angels saluted Imam Ali (AS) in thr group of 1001 each.
First Jibrael who led the 1000 angels followed by Mikael who led 1000 and finally Israfil who also led 1000.

The reason for the salutation was that Imam Ali went to fetch water for the muslim army in that cold night of the 17th of Ramadhan.
