It is not permissible to consume fish oil, except after being satisfied that it is derived from fish which are permissible to eat.

However, it is permissible to use fish oil from a fish which are not allowed to eat, for medical purposes, if the following two conditions are met.

1. It is used for curing an unbearable illness.
2. The experts in medical field are limited and confined to curing the unbearable illness with it.

If the two conditions are not met, then it is not permissible.
