Salaams,
As per research done using the Islamic book of laws:

A Muslim woman cannot marry a non-Muslim, and a male Muslim also cannot marry a non-Muslim woman who are not Ahlul Kitab. [Fatawa of Ayatullah al Uzama Syed Ali al-Husaini Seestani]

Hope this helps :)

As

Muslim men can marry ahl kitab women

Muslim women cannot marry any non-muslim.

What about shia men/women marrying other sects within islam?

According to the rulings of Sayyid Sistani, I believe men are not allowed to take ahlul kitab women in nikah, but mutah with them is permissible. Again, if one has a Muslim nikah wife, he must have her permission for mutah to an ahlul Kitab woman.

Salams,
i think, muslim men are allowed to marry from the other sects because there are higher chances of that lady turning into Muslim. We have been taught in isllam what does this marriage life means. as per that. the woman has to follow her muslim husband.

in return to why not muslim ladies marry other sects. its the other way round. :)
Hope thats helping MJ:)
