Am I allowed to sell,music items like vcd, dvd, audio casette that I had bought in the past to get my cash back as I have stopped listening to music?

I don't know if you can sell them or not... but you can definately re-use them to record Majalises, Nawhas, Nasheeds, etc.

I believe the Tabligh used to accept the casettes once upon a time and they would re use it. I'm not sure if they still do accept the casettes.

I congratulate my brother for the firm decision of not litsening to music.
As for the question , the reply is as follows:
Ayatullah Abdul Husain Dastaghaib (a.r) in his book 'GREATER SINS' vol 1. (a book highly recomended to read for every youth ) on the topic of Music says:
" All the Mujtahids are unanimous in their opinion that the manufacture ,sale and purchase of musical instruments is HARAAM. It is HARAAM even to keep instruments of music in one's possesion.It is Obligatory to destroy them. "

Therefore in our case for the CD's containing music , is an instrument of music therefore it must be destroyed.
