I have always wondered, what does Islam say about the gender that's neither male nor female?

Such person is examined through various methods and if he is inclined to the characteristics of male then he is considered a male and if he possesses the characteristics of female then he is dealt like a female, and if both sides are confused then such person observes precaution between the rules of male and the rules of female with the best of its ability.
