On the 20th of Ramadhan, when Imam Ali was on his death bed following the attack by Abdu'r-Rahman Ibn Muljim Muradi, he asked: "You may ask any question you like before I leave you, but your questions should be brief." One of those present was Sa'sa'a Bin Suwhan. Sa'sa'a said to Ali: "Let me know wh...

Imam Ali has said: Knowledge is better than Wealth because of 7 (Reasons): 1. Knowledge is inheritence of Prophets while wealth is inheritence of Firauns (Pharohs). 2. Knowlege Does not Diminish (rather increases) with spending , while wealth diminishes with spending. 3. Wealth requires to be protec...

That statement could equally apply to the scenario I stated in my earlier post. You are taking too narrow a view of that statement hence your misgivings about the people who say it.

I think we are not on the same page hence the misunderstanding. No one is saying Eid is or should be shunned as an entire event even when death occurs in the most traditionalists of Khoja households. Eid namaaz is and should be observed and it’s widely recognised that it is a joyous day. What people...

I know of no account which states that the Prophet did celebrate the 2 Eids that year. In-fact from what I know, no Eid nor Birthday of an Aimma was celebrated by the Ahlul Bayte (as) after the event of Karbala until the day the head of Ibn Ziyad was sent to our fourth Imam (as).

If grieving for a loved one a while after they have died is not an Islamic tradition and a hindu one I wonder why the Holy Prophet (saw) called the year both Hazrat Abu Talib (as) and Bibi Khadija Hazrat (as) died Aam-ul-Huzn (the year of grief).

Our 4th Imam in Sahifa as Sajjadiyya in the du’a welcoming the Holy month of Ramadhan says: “And praise belongs to Allah who appointed among those roads His month, the month of Ramadhan, the month of fasting, the month of submission, the month of purity, the month of putting to test, the month of st...

Not all customs and traditions are monotonous. This is what baffles me about contemporary thinking, everything needs to be simplified.
